ご主人様、coffee, tea or me?

就算得or not,

~ Round 1 ~
望了我張cv一眼,就摺埋佢,話佢唔會judge me by my academic background
What matters start from now.

過左50秒he gave me one more raw material – a pen…其實just by throwing the pen would work already ..hahaha

(2) if I go up and tell boss B u interviewed last time that I hate you a lot, what’s your contingency plan?

(3) If I ask you to quit MIT now and work with us tomorrow, yes or no? No? Convince me. What is the added value in that one more year to us? I don’t care if you are a college grad or not. The final year only matters to you.

(4) if i gave you 1m USD now to buy a property anywhere in the world, where? Why? How big? And how? One-off or mortgage? How many % down payment?

(5) So you have interviewed with 5 people already, who do you like the least among the 5?

(6) OK. From the last 1.5 hours, tell me what u know about me. How old am I ? Am I married? (got wedding ring haha) How many kids? Do I wear glasses usually? (yes on his working pass XD) How many companies have I worked at?

Day 50 !!

離愁別緒yet to sink in。

”Synthetic“ nametag…haha

The floor..!

cupcakes i bought for the team on last day

Final project a.k.a. my turnaround story…:P

A Typical Day at Work:

7:00am   Arrive at desk, grab coffee , read emails and Reuters for news
7:20am   Get morning meeting note
7:30am   Morning Meeting with everyone
8:00am  Trading Floor Huddle
9:00am  Send out stock idea of the day to the team
(9:00am  Buy breakfast for boss and myself ..)
9:30am  “Ding Ding” – things go noisy …
10:00am Work..could be anything….
12:15pm  Lunch, usually takeaway and bring it back to work and eat in front of monitor
1:30pm    “Ding Ding” – things go noisy again..
4:00pm   “Ding Ding” – cheers and gasps around the floor
7pm-ish  Summarize client feedback and email out to all Asia offices
(an indicator that I could leave the office :p)

again..very grateful that my team hs given me a lot of chance to work on a wide range of stuff (from writing macro, to stock pitching in diff sectors and countries, from analyzing vote results , summarizing client feedbacks to meeting clients & companies). After understanding the reason behind each hand-on task, things add up together and really hv a better understanding of 來龍去脈

Rmb bro was asking me to look at research reports..they all look quite intimidating in the beginning..now I am so familiar with them now. same for everything else, intimidating at first, conquer it, and now you are comfortable with it. really, nothing to fear once you try

Final Feedback from my team:
overall speaking..luckily it’s quite positive!! one thing to improve is that I could have a “stronger presence”…again sometimes I am too shy to speak up and walk around to social. which I totally agree..but boss said after seeing my final presentation he believes that If I know something really well, I can convince people very strongly too ..’shy’ is just becoz of ‘lack of confidence’ working among experienced sales, so one day, one day….when I have built up expertise in something (which is still unknown), it should be fine.

  • “You have enormous potential…really impressed with your high quality work…keep it up and let’s stay in touch.”
  • “it is not just about the PPT but the logic flow and level of maturity…very impressive indeed.”
  • “Pretty impressive from a summer intern.”
  • “You learn very very fast and add-value with quality. a worthwhile and useful intern to have”
  • “I believe she could excel in and is suitable for hire in any front office divisions in the industry”

Key Takeaways:
1) gain market sense
2) understand the role of each function in trading floor/ibank
3) identify my strength and skill set , and i.e. career fit for myself
byebye~~!

Day 49 – D-Day

“we are all impressed by your presentation skill ~!”

Indian: “So I am sure you have done a lot of brainteasers and puzzles right?”
Me (面色立刻發白):”…no..not really”
Indian: “Okay I won’t ask you then”
Me (心底):YESSHHHHHHHHHHHH

Day 47 – *0*

it takes me 6 months to slowly learn everything from zero..
by reading WSJ daily…taking finance classes..reading books…going on virtual trading platform…trading with my own money…stuff like this

but it only takes 1 day to learn what’s really going on behind the scene by working side-by-side with the people on the trading floor …

reading my old blog entries on the market…now they all look so bak chi haha

before going into the industry.. really gotta intentionally put a lot of effort to understand all these stuff..

but now.. all these market colors are already in my head intuitively

that’s the biggest biggest takeaway of this summer.

the feeling is..I was color-blind, now I can see!
From zero to one (dont get me wrong) , an eye-opening summer~ !

______

lots of thanks to the MIT Admission Committee who picked me in the first place…

becoz it has really changed my life…
