Meeting Bill Gates

  1. 好感恩可以有機會看到一個這麼phenomenal的global傳奇人物。thanks mit! his appearance alone was already wow enough for the whole crowd..camera flashes didn’t die down at all in the first half hour. (the whole thing is around an hour)
  2. “Giving Back: Finding the Best Way to Make a Difference.” –now that he is full-time chair of the gates foundation, the topic is no longer about technology or computers.
  3. The objective of the speech is  –the importance in drawing in more bright young minds into some low-invested global/urgent problems..e.g. education (US), health (vaccine) and the environment.–if not inspiring, quite an appropriate/worth-mentioning one to address the young ambitious audiences.
  4. “If a delay of an invention of a financial product would mean one less urgent problem, I think it’s a good thing”
  5. A highlight of the day — how does it feel like to be the richest man on earth? he answered casually: “air traffic is convenient.” , “there is a diminishing return of the value of the money” “mcdonald still has the best burger” “and when your net worth reached a point, say a few millions, you will start giving back.”
  6. anti-gates ppl were handing out “Gates is not a role model. Don’t respect him” outside the auditorium.
  7. My comment is: the motivation behind the college tour is powerful, important and applausible. he’s a good speaker..but he (step 1) hasn’t really specify how to attract students effectively into those fields… after all . just like volunteer work, they are financially undesirable with a low tangible/quantifiable $ rate of return. Or (step 2) how to distribute these resources efficiently to the needy in order to make a real difference..Am I inspired? Yes I am and I truly appreciate how he’s trying to remind college students like us, who are intoxicated in the financial world, to think in a global mindset. = the end=
